disagree Qudsia Lone : Message needs to convey that employers should respect workers' right to observe Ramadhan in an adequate envirnonment. Adding religious sentiments or phrasing is not appropriate for non-Muslim audience.

رمضان کا لحاظ رکھیں

the word respect if translated as احترام It will not deliver the core message. And one needs more description that how to respect!. especially when workers of a firm will wear a dress having these two words written on it. then the word لحاظ رکھنا will be quite suitable. Because it covers two meanings towards respect

1) to respect 2) to have an attitude which shows u really respect

Peer comment(s):

agree Qudsia Lone : Better translation, given the context. ّMessage needs to convey that employers should respect workers' right to observe Ramadhan. Suggestions: رمضان ملحوظ رکھیں , or a better version may be ماہ رمضان ملحوظ رکھیں. Translation: "Have regard for Ramadhan"

Thanx
disagree Mohammad Nasir : لحاظ would be “regard for” or “consideration” and it does not truly reflect the word احترام . Yes, the message has to be conveyed but we cannot deviate “too much” from the actual English word that is required to be translated.

ماہِ رمضان قابلِ احترام

Hi Tomasz,
Thanks for posting your question.
Because you've mentioned that it's going to be used as a Hashtag, therefore my translation will fit well and I hope my colleagues will agree too.
You may wish to print my translation in this way too : قابلِ احترام ماہِ رمضان
Regards
Example sentence:

قابلِ احترام ماہِ رمضان

ماہِ رمضان قابلِ احترام

Peer comment(s):

neutral Qudsia Lone : This is not the intention of the message. The message needs to convey that employers should respect workers' rights to observe Ramadhan. This translation back-translates to: "Month of Ramadhan is worthy of respect"; not intended for a non-Muslim audience

احترامِ رمضان

In my opinion we need to come up with the terms which convey the exact meaning with least words.

It is not a rule book on which they are going to write. It is a sticker with the hashtag. That the person having this sticker on respects Ramadhan. I find this the biggest hurdle while dealing with respected Urdu translators. Our main purpose is not finding an alternate word in Urdu for the original word. A translator's main purpose is to convey what is intended in the message. It does not matter if you totally change the words. If we take "Respect Ramadhan" as an imperative message and translate it as it is, it will become a clause of a rule book. Respect Ramadhan entails that the person having this sticker on is observing Ramadhan.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Qudsia Lone : Exact message is an instruction, not a description. The message needs to convey that employers should respect workers' rights to observe Ramadhan. This translation back-translates to: "Respect of Ramadhan"

I agree to the back - translation. I will beg to differ though, when we write the translation i suggested all the things related to Ramadhan become implied. For Example: We see "Danger" written on oil tankers, no one needs to explain it will be dangerous.
