English term

bugger off for a minute

English to French Art/Literary Poetry & Literature novel
Hi everyone

In this sentence, would it be necessary to translate "for one minute" or just write : "fous le camp", "dégage"; "tire-toi" ?

Thank you for your suggestions.

Fantastic participation! To me, the real marvel is how this kind of question draws so much more participation than the technical ones :)) Really enjoying the group conversation.
Daryo Mar 10, 2017:
@ ormiston ain't it a marvel how a little change in context can completely twist the meaning? Still, you get a lot a questions without any context to speak of ...
ormiston Mar 8, 2017:
I'd be wary maybe the person is actually saying "I think I'll just bugger off for a minute"
Nathalie Stewart Mar 8, 2017:
"un peu" I would suggest "Fous-moi la paix un peu !", I think more common in French than "une minute".
Tony M Mar 8, 2017:
Context I agree with Isabelle: we need to see how the term is being used in context?
In particualr, is it being used in the sense of 'go away', or rather, complaining that just when there is work to be done, someone absents themselves?

without any context to speak of, this is as likely as anything else;

implied: you don't want to be present / see what's going to happen - go away and come back in a minute - by then it would be done.

or it could as well be part of "I'm going to bugger off for a minute"
=>
Je vais disparaître pour une minute

so cover for me in the meantime / you'll have a bit of quiet
etc etc

without the exact context, you can let your imagination loose - not that it will help much the Asker
