French term

fragilité psychotique

French to English Medical Psychology
I'm translating a psychiatric report and I've come across the phrase "fragilité psychotique". I suppose I could translate this as "psychotic fragility" but there aren't many results for this term on Google. Therefore I thought it best to ask here.

Here's the context in the report:

Concernant le traitement psychopharmacologique, madame n’a pas un traitement approprié actuellement. Je note que son état dépressif ne s’est pas amélioré suite à la prescription de Cipralex à dose maximale, et ce, depuis maintenant un an. Compte tenu de l’évolution des symptômes ici, on devrait envisager plutôt des symptômes dépressifs en lien avec une dépression bipolaire et voire même la présence d’une fragilité psychotique. Ici, un stabilisateur de l’humeur doit être introduit rapidement.

Feb 13, 2017 17:21: Nikki Scott-Despaigne changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Steffen Walter, Daryo, Nikki Scott-Despaigne

Non-PRO (1): Yvonne Gallagher

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Nikki Scott-Despaigne Feb 13, 2017:
Going back to the original text, the patient is described as displaying symptoms which are "plutôt" are akin to symptoms of depression related to a bipolar disorder, perhaps even the presence of a psychotic vulnerability/tendency.
it is important not to confuse bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder.
Barbara Cochran, MFA Feb 13, 2017:
No, Tony... They're not the same thing.

agree Tony M : In fact, "vulnerability to psychosis" gets a rather more encouarging number of Ghits — but I'm not sure if that's the same thing!

neutral Barbara Cochran, MFA : This is certainly what the phrase means, but I don't believe, after having worked in a community mental health center for several years, and having access to patient records, that this is the way a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse would refer to it.

borderline psychosis

borderline psychosis
borderline psychosis[′bȯrd·ər‚līn sī′kō·səs]
(psychology)
The psychiatric diagnosis of an individual whose symptoms are severe but are not clearly psychotic or neurotic.

Peer comment(s):

disagree Barbara Cochran, MFA : Your entry is a diagnostic category, not a more general description of someone's propensity towards or experience of psychosis. /It just refers to a weakened state, not to a diagnosis.

"experience of" psychosis => sounds like solid grounds for a "diagnostic of ..." + how do you see a "fragilité psychotique" if there are not at least some symptoms???
disagree Nikki Scott-Despaigne : "BDA" wld be "acute (psychotic) episode". The FR p/analytical current uses "état limite" for psychopatho states betw. psychosis + neurosis. In EN, the pref'd tm is "borderline", also used in FR, but debate on if equiv. Neither is correct here.

"fragilité personnelle (état limites)" is the part I used - which would imply that "fragilité personnelle" is a kind of "borderline state of mind" // OTOH only CL3

psychotic fragility

Since this is a doctor's report, I think the more formal expression would be used.

Note added at 21 mins (2017-02-12 22:29:12 GMT)

Given the context, it might also be "psychotic decompensation", if you would like something less litera.l

I was also thinking that "psychotic instability" might be appropriate, also.

disagree Daryo : for a term that you would reasonably expect to be widely used in that profession - (where there are no secret terms/concepts), almost no relevant ghits! https://www.google.co.uk/search?q="fragilité psychotique"&st...

I never said it is "widely used". I said it would be likely to be used by a doctor, as part of a medical report, like the asker stated, not the general public.
