Spanish term
pintoresquismo

A Peruvian critic from the 50s defending nationalism in Peruvian art:
Con tales propuestas, a su juicio, se empieza a superar “el complejo represivo, inhibitorio y negador que la Colonia puso en el alma del artista peruano”, complejo que demuestra una falacia: historicismo, cosmopolitismo, pintoresquismo y eclecticismo, los cuales operan bajo el mismo disfraz.
the picturesque is one solution, but picturesquism? The picturesque movement??
Thanks

picturesquism
it is a particular term that is not really a synonym of "picturesque". Several examples:

[28] “The non-representational symbol of modern painting always represents something, even although it is only the desire of non-representation. It can be to do with a 20th century version of decimononic picturesquism, pure abstract is always, to a certain point, an image or copy of the ideal of non-referentialism. Thus it is to do with a symbol which is related with other symbols in relations of reduplication and repetition” (Steven Connor: Postmodern Culture, Ed. Akal, Madrid, 1996, p. 72).

“Developing means organising the landscape; organising the landscape means organising each and every one of the parts”. This definition has nothing to do with any of the Romantic awareness of the landscape or landscape ‘picturesquism’ of the 19th century.

: This is what I would use, especially if the other terms are translated with '-ism'.

Thanks Helena. Yes, it is an art/architectural term I've come across before which is used just like this in English.

"pintoresque-ism"
In quotes. 'Pintoresque' is a known expression in art, even though it's not in the dictionary. The idea is 'in a (painterly) style'. 'Picturesque' is a description meaning 'like a painted scene' (Merriam-Webster). The distinction is subtle, but in this context I think it's valid and important to be preserved. Here are some examples of 'pintoresque' in English:
