Can anyone please tell me how to say this in English?
When I look for the expression all I find is cross related to roads, traffic, etc.

agree Michael Woolgar : "Comparison" is perhaps a better translation of the term "cruce" in this sense, which is instructing the comparison of education and profession of the family head to determine a specific characteristic.

Asking (combined) questions about the education and profession of the head of the household.
I understand "cruce" in this sense to mean a sort of comparison or crossover of ideas.
These are instructions for the people interviewing the subjects. Basically it just means "Ask them questions about education and job to find out their social class". The "cruce" bit is just jargon IMHO.
