English term

inconsistent

English to French Tech/Engineering Computers (general)
Bonjour,

"[...] containers make it easy for software assets to sprawl across the environment. This means they won’t be managed properly, and soon the environment will end up with too many unnecessary services running, a bloated attack surface, and varying patch levels and inconsistent application and system settings and configurations."

Merci d'avance :)

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (2): GILLES MEUNIER, Tony M

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

disagree Daryo : where does it say the whole thing has ground to a halt? if you put together systems and software that are incompatibles it won't work at all // that's what "incompatible" means ...

disagree Tony M : As Daryo says 'incompatible' suggest they actually won't work together, which is not quite the meaning of 'inconsistent' here.

manque de cohérence

Here, I would turn it round to express a 'lack of consistency' in these settings etc.

disparates

Synonyme : discordant

http://www.linternaute.com/dictionnaire/fr/definition/dispar...

the point made is about the cacophony of different versions/settings from one system to another nothing more;

no one is saying that it's not working - it might be and probably is a right pain the neck to have to work with various versions of the same system/software but it's still working, which would NOT be possible if there was any "incompatibility"

"réglages et configurations de systèmes et d'applications incompatibles" would mean guaranteed gridlock - which would warrant the use of a term somewhat much stronger than "inconsistent"
Note from asker:
Merci Daryo :)

disparate = différent that's exactly the point // get your nose out of your MT and read the ST ...
neutral Tony M : Although I have some doubts, like Gilles, as to the exact suitability here, this certainly couldn't be ruled out inasmuch as its basic sense, rather than simplistically 'different', is more like 'diverse' or 'heterogeneous', much closer to 'inconsistent'

'heterogeneous' sounds right!
