Corchetes

Spanish to English Other Printing & Publishing
Taken from a DTP and style guide for a private company in Spain. What they are referring to is a design feature used in a printed advertising context to draw the audience's attention to a specific part of the photo or advert. In their guide, these "corchetes" look like a red square, or possibly a rectangle, but with only the corners visible, thus making them less intrusive on the page. They are then framed around the relevant part of the photo, say somebody's face, to highlight it.

They're kind of like a reticle on a scope! I'm wondering if there is an accepted translation for this in English and have even asked myself whether "corchetes" is an accepted term in Spanish. I don't think "square brackets" is the answer, though I may be wrong.

Any advice much appreciated!

Yes They are, to all intents and purposes, the same as the 'crop marks' used to resize photos. I've amended my original suggestion to "frame" as I think there are several valid options.

Instructions for this type of widget usually say "focus the frame":
"...a box appears around any object you can focus the frame on..."
"Focus the frame on the QR code or barcode you want to scan, and the app will scan automatically."
