VALIDATION METHODOLOGIES
Direct validation involves comparing values obtained from the satellite derived products with ground observations and determining the accuracy of the products.

In order to ensure that the product derived values are of the same location as the observed values, a number of equipment are required to carry out the exercise.

Below is the description of the equipment.
GPS
A handheld Global Positioning unit such as the Garmin etrex Legend with a horizontal positioning accuracy of about 6m or better is required to map the validation points.

Camera
Photographs along the validation route need to be taken.

Any high resolution camera (10MP or better) preferably fitted with a 38-300mm zoom lens will be ideal.

Route Planning and Field Recording
Prior to the validation exercise, the validation route should be to cover as much of the assessment area as possible depending on the time and budget available.
