What part of a fishing rod is the ingombro? I've looked everywhere--google images, wikipedia, fishing websites, etc. I can't find something that specifies what it is, either in Italian or English!

Questa è certamente una canna da pesca telescopica, dato che l'ingombro è minore della lunghezza totale
TryTenkara 300 6:4 è studiata per i piccoli torrenti. Si adatta perfettamente agli stretti torrenti ed alle piccole trote selvagge che popolano questi ambienti.

Here is a old vintage steel fishing rod. Marked "Richardson" on the reel seat. Metal fly rods are hard to find.
There are 3 sections total and 2 of the sections extend out and self-store in each other. Length when closed is about 41 inches. The overall extended length is about 99 inches (about 8 1/4 feet).

This makes the rods very easy to transport to remote areas or travel on buses, compact cars, or public buses and subways. Telescopic fishing rods are made from the same materials as conventional multi-piece rods.

Generally speaking, the 'ingombro' is simply the area an object occupies, its volume within a space. Have a look in the glossary to see if any of the existing translations fits your context.
One more thing. Unless specifically related to fisheries, I would suggest you to change the subject to 'Sports'.
