Anyone ascending or descending inside the shaft by means of ladder, rope or step-irons during (well) construction or afterwards should be attached to a safety rope held securely by someone at ground level who is taking in the slack. The rope should pass through or over a device which would grip it should th eperson in the well fall. When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
