Je me casse les dents sur "by-product" (sous-produit).
Utiliser le terme "sous-produits" me dérange, car la connotation est négative, mais je ne vois pas quel terme pourrait le remplacer.

@ Christine Although that would be a literla translation, as we've discussed at length below, this would not fit here in the given context, as in fact the source term is rather poorly chosen.

agree with Tony here you can't literally say "as a by-product" = "comme un sous-produit", you have to look behind this clumsy figure of style.

The main characteristic of a "by-product" is that it is the secondary result of making some main product, so anything along the lines of "welcome secondary effect" "positive collateral effect" "comme retombé" "as a consequence ..." would be fine.

@ Asker I'm not 100% sure, but I think you're misunderstanding the overall sense here, which is leading you astray. I believe the idea is meant to be "We want to be a distributor-centred company, and if as a welcome side-effect of that, our distributors are successful..."

So we're really talking about a 'retombé' — to be honest, the use of 'by-product' is a bit questionable in the EN; I think something like 'spin-off' would have been much more appropriate!

Perhaps an 'à-côté'?
