Russian term

номер-ромб

Russian to English Tech/Engineering Military / Defense Armored vehicle -- tank
This term appears in a book on Czechoslovakian tanks. Here's all the context I have:

Несмотря на то что номера‑ромбы уже давно не использовались армией, чехи продолжали педантично устанавливать их на все танки.

(That is a caption to a photograph, but the captions have been omitted from the PDF file that I have, so I can't match the caption to the right photograph. The next sentence also references a photograph that I can't identify.)

Обратите внимание на расположение болтов с петлями крепления брезента, остатки стойки номера-ромба и страховочные шпильки на петлях люков моторного отделения.

Tactical Numbers

Early tactical numbers were attached to vehicles on small rhombus shaped plates. The numbers were generally small and painted in white while the rhomboid plate itself was dark gray (RAL 7021) or occasionally black (RAL 9005). Unfortunately these small tactical numbers were frequently difficult to identify in combat, so many vehicles sported larger tactical numbers in white on the hull and/or turret. As with the bright white national insignia, these larger white tactical numbers were frequently painted over in yellow. Replicating these variants provides the modeler with several options for Polish campaign vehicles.
