There are two main dialects of Albanian: Geg in the north and Tosk in the south. From what I've read, Geg speakers are more likely to say "mret" and Tosk speakers "m:bret". The word is a corruption of the Latin "imperator" meaning emperor. Imperator is also the source of the Arabic word emir who is kind of like a king.

From my experience, this is the word for "king" because I've often heard Albanians say "mret" instead of "mbret". More context is needed to see if this is the case here, though.
