English term

Bricked

English to Spanish Tech/Engineering Telecom(munications) Freelancer Assignments
Hello everyone,

The term appears in the description of a used mobile. I am translating product descriptions for a company which sells used and restored mobile phones and this term appears in one of the descriptions. I don´t really know how to translate this, does it mean that is totally corrupted or that can no longer function?
I found this in Wikipedia but still have no idea of how to translate it:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brick_(electronics)

It appears in this sentence:
Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate SCH-i500 Verizon Negro 2GB Powers On Bricked

Any hint would be really useful!

Thanks a lot in advance!

Se me hace que es "arruinado, estropeado, inoperable", bah, no sirve pa´na

@ Raquel A shot in the dark:
In my humble opinion it seems unlikely that a company would sell a phone that it is busted and cannot be used at all, what would be the point of purchasing such phone? I am wondering if you should consider the whole phrase "Powers On Brick(ed)" and maybe the final "ed" should really not be there? I am wondering if it has something to do with this: http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-a-power-brick.htm

mal funcionamiento

Hay dos tipos de dispositvos "bricked": "soft bricked y hard bricked"
El "soft bricked" es reparable ya que su falla está basada en "firmware", es decir un software que no lo deja funcionar. Lo que no debe ser difícil de resover.

Device can recover from a soft bricked state by simply clearing all the internal memory and flashing the firmware.[4] Sometimes internal memory partitions of the device require to be flashed again in order to recover device from this state.

El "hard bricked" requiere de nayor conocimiento interno y de herramientas adicionales.

Recovering from a hard brick is generally considered difficult and requires the use of a more direct programming interface to the controller; such an interface exists as there must be a way to program the initial firmware on an unprogrammed device. However, additional tools or connections may be needed

como sea la falla que no los deja funcionar bien siempre es posible conseguir una solución que representará que la empresa consiga establecer un negocio rentable. En líneas generales esos dipositivos tienen un mal funcionamiento.

When fully bricked, your phone is no longer user-repairable in any shape or form. The truth is that many times new modders think that just because a phone appears to be bricked means that all hope is lost. Luckily, this isn’t true.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks a lot to everyone! It has been really helpful! I selected one of the answers but honestly, any of the answers you all gave me were right I think and they all helped me a lot to find a term I could use for the descriptions. I think all the answers were totally right, just different ways to say it. Finally I opted for "No Funciona Correctamente". Thanks to everyone! :-)"

When someone breaks a device and turns it into an expensive brick, people say they “bricked” it. We’ll cover exactly what causes bricking and why, how you can avoid it, and what to do if you have a bricked device.

Bear in mind that many people use the term “bricking” incorrectly and refer to a device that isn’t working properly as “bricked.” if you can easily recover the device through a software process, it’s technically not “bricked.”

Definition of Bricking

“Bricking” essentially means a device has turned into a brick. It may be an electronic device worth hundreds of dollars, but it’s now as useful as a brick (or perhaps a paperweight). A bricked device won’t power on and function normally.

A bricked device cannot be fixed through normal means. For example, if Windows won’t boot on your computer, your computer isn’t “bricked” because you can still install another operating system on it. However, if you tried to power your computer on and it didn’t work properly at all, making it impossible to install an operating system, you could consider the computer bricked.

The verb “to brick” means breaking a device in this way. For example, if someone says “I bricked my iPhone,” that’s a cry for help – their iPhone is no longer working properly.

“Bricking” generally means that a device isn’t recoverable through normal means and can’t be fixed, but some people may say a device is “bricked” even when it’s recoverable.
