Muchas gracias, Taña. “Bajo tensión” era también mi traducción. Necesitaba descartar que la traducción fuera “(con el motor del barco) en marcha”. Estaba utilizando “desenrollar” en lugar del término “lascar”.
Lascar: Dejar ir , aflojar o arriar un poco un cabo, cable ó cadena que esté trabajando. LASCAR: Soltar un poco un cabo que va trabajando con mucha tensión.

Lo leo y confirmo en contexto. Muchas gracias por partida doble. Te envío un cordial saludo.

Has nothing to do with "paying for (monetarily)".

To "pay out" means to ease/slacken ropes/moorings to allow a rope to run out (pay out in nautical terms.

Carlos, I am not a native Spanish-speaker, hence my hesitation. However, see if page 75 helps to clarify. Perhaps "bajo tensión / remover la tensión" (see phrases 26 to 29 for some ideas). I would be more comfortable though if a native Spanish speaker could confirm.
