Italian term

facilitazione da trattamento

Italian to English Medical Medical (general) medical history - neurolo
This appears in the discharge diagnosis of a patient with multiple medical problems hospitalized for seizures and loss of consciousness:

DIAGNOSI: Epilessia con crisi generalizzate (stato di male/fase di degenza Terapia Intensiva) in paziente con SM progressiva: *Facilitazione da trattamento* con 4-aminopiridina e stato febbrile con successivo intervento per colecisti ... " etc.

I don't understand what "facilitazione di trattamento" means here; I assume a different word would probably be used in English (not "facilitation").

4-aminopyridine is a medication used to help people with MS. " Fampridine has been shown to improve visual function and motor skills and relieve fatigue in patients with multiple sclerosis" (Wikipedia)

Thanks for shedding light on this.

"da" Hi everyone, thanks for your comments and suggestions.

Just to set things straight: the source says "facilitazione *da* trattamento." I made a mistake the second time I wrote the phrase and wrote "di".

Improvement? First of all: I do not translate medical documents.

Now: could it mean that treatment with 4-aminopyridine led to an improvement? Easing of the condition?

(seizures) facilitated by treatment with

4-aminopyridine is a drug used for MS that can cause seizures as adverse effect.

Here in my opinion the physician means that the epilepsy condition was facilitated (I would not use "induced") by the treatment with 4-aminopyridine and by the fever (that also makes seizures more frequent in patient with epilepsy)

Convulsant activity
4-Aminopyridine is a potent convulsant and is used to generate seizures in animal models for the evaluation of antiseizure agents [9]

Note from asker:
Thank you very much Gilberto. On my own, I wondered whether the aminopyridine given for the MS might have triggered the patient's seizures (I read the same Wikipedia information), but it didn't occur to me that this is what the doctor was saying in the Diagnosi section. Grazie mille per chiarire la situazione!

I think you may be misreading "da" as "di".
Note from asker:
Hi Phil. It's "da". I see that I carelessly wrote it as "di" the second time.
