French term

entité conceptuelle de soi

Non-PRO French to English Social Sciences Psychology Leadership development
This comes from profiles of different leader types and is seen many times in the text, e.g. "... le leader doit prendre conscience du contrôle que peut exercer son entité conceptuelle de soi sur ses pensées et son comportement."

I am currently translating as "sense of self," but would like your opinion!

Joëlle Tirindelli (asker) May 11, 2015:
Thank you everyone for your posts and great website reference finds! Very thoughtful. As I said to Heidi, I have decided that the best answer is the fairly literal translation "self-concept entity" (keeping entity because the text uses "entité" on its own to refer back to entité conceptuelle de soi) Heidi or Elizabeth, can you post "self-concept"as an answer so I can give you credit?
Elizabeth Tamblin May 11, 2015:
I've found the term "self-concept" in the context of leadership, e.g:

http://thescholarship.ecu.edu/handle/10342/3516

It seems to be a term used by psychologists rather than lay people, so it would depend on the register of your source text, whether or not it is suitable here. If it's intended for a less technical readership, perhaps "self-image" would work.

As per my reference, posted separately below.

(While my reference explains 'self-concept' in psychology, Elizabeth Tamblin's reference in the discussion box is about the use of the term in the context of leadership.)

Self-concept

Question: What Is Self-Concept?
Answer: Self-concept is the image that we have of ourselves.

Humanist psychologist Carl Rogers believed that there were three different parts of self-concept:
Self-image, or how you see yourself.
Self-esteem, or how much you value yourself.
Ideal self, or how you wish you could be

Note from asker:
Thank you so much, Heidi! I hadn't found this website. I am keeping it as a fairly literal translation : self-concept entity (keeping entity because the text refers back to "entité")
