Polish term

Rzeczpospolita Polska

Homework / test Polish to English Social Sciences History
Dokument w którym pojawia się to wyrażenie to odpis aktu urodzenia wydany w 1951r.
Wydaje mi się, iż nie powinien być on tłumaczony jako "the Republic of Poland" ze względu na znaczną różnicę między RP w tamtych latach, a RP obecnie. Różne źródła podają tłumaczenie
"Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej" z okresu między II Wojną Światową a PRLem jako "Polish Republic", niestety pojawia się ono zamiennie wraz z "the Republic of Poland".

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (2): TechLawDC, Joanna Rączka

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

mike23 Mar 23, 2015:
The Polish People's Republic (Polish: Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa, PRL) was the official name of Poland until 1989 according to Constitution of 1952 based originally on the Soviet blueprint. Until 1952, the name of the Polish state according to a temporary Constitution of 1947 issued by the communists was simply Rzeczpospolita Polska (the Republic of Poland)

Two decades later, in September 1939, World War II started with the invasions of Poland by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union (as part of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact). More than six million Polish citizens died in the war.[12][13][14][15] In 1944, a Soviet-backed Polish provisional government was formed which, after a period of conflict, falsified a referendum and an election, giving rise to a satellite state[16] of the Soviet Union, Polish Republic (Rzeczpospolita Polska), renamed to the People's Republic of Poland (Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa) in 1952.

agree Frank Szmulowicz, Ph. D. : So, I was off by a year. In 1952, it became the Polish People's Republic.

Thanks. I wish you were off by some 40 years and put us from 1951 right to 1991 skipping the People's RP
