Italian term
mezzi propri
Italian to English

Accounting
This is part of a table which illustrates Explanatory Variables and Measurement Methods.
The Explanatory Variable that corresponds to the Measurement Method - Return on Equity, is "redditività mezzi propri". As far as I can find it seems that mezzi propri does actually translate to equity, but this makes for a very strange and redundant table.
I guess what I'm ultimately asking is what would the explanatory variable in English be for the measurement method- return on equity, if not profitability (or return) on equity?

This is elementary accounting. On one side of the balance sheet you have assets and on the other side you have what the companies owes (and provisions for future risks and charges) its liabilities plus the money the owners put in, the "mezzi propri" or equity (also shareholder's funds). RoE is Return on Capital or the "redditività mezzi propri"
