Spanish to English Law/Patents Law: Patents, Trademarks, Copyright Patent Nullification Proceeding (Response)

Does anyone know how this term is translated into English in the following context? Please note that it is used as and adjective in one part of the sentence, and then as a verb, so I need help with both instances, please.

The document is a response from a Patent owner to a Petition to nullify his patent which was already granted through the same authority that is now petitioning for nullification.

I have been using "unburdened" for desahogado in this text, but this English word does not seem to fit the verb use (proceso en que "fue desahogado").

Here is the context:

Al respecto, nuestro Máximo Tribunal Federal, ha emitido una serie de criterios de jurisprudencia, que confirman la ausencia de eficacia y valor jurídico de un dictamen técnico emitido en un diverso trámite procesal, dado que al tratarse de la opinión técnica emitida por un área especializada o experta en determinada materia, se asemeja a un dictamen pericial técnico que requiere ser desahogado dentro del procedimiento en el que fue requerido, sin que sus efectos o utilidad jurídica trascienda los limites procesales del proceso en que fue desahogado, máxime cuando, como en el caso que nos ocupa, el procedimiento de nulidad en donde se emitió el dictamen en cuestión, fue desestimado y declarado improcedente, por falta de interés jurídico de su promovente.
