My answer refers to the indications (after ~1hour I entered "To apply the therapeutic shampoo, follow the indications for the corresponding illness."), which are inherently linked to the symptoms.

I believe in the full context that the answer I provided actually fits this better than the "instructions" concept, I would say either mine or jimblk as it pretty clearly shows the shampoo is meant to be used in accordance with the specific symptoms of the disease and not the instructions for the shampoo

@Phil Yes, I think it does really mean "el uso del champú": it must. It's an ellipsis, clumsy, no doubt, but not that strange really (at least to me).

It's loosely expressed but I don't think it's that difficult to see what they mean: "atenerse a" must mean "be used according to". "Indicaciones", in relation to medications, normally means indications in the sense of instructions: in other words, the leaflet will contain a series of instructions, labelled "indicaciones", on how the shampoo is to be used for this or that ailment, and these are to be followed.

It says "el champú terapéutico deberá atenerse", which doesn't make much sense to me. I wondered whether Lindsey had misquoted the sentence, which is why I asked for the full context.

indicaciones, in this case (bad choice of word) means the symptoms of the disease.

In sum, the shampoo must be for example, a dandruff shampoo ONLY and not one for tinted hair as well, etc.
