Thank you, kamilw. This is the term used in the US, and it does encompass all phases of the educationalprocess: advising, supervising, and seeing to the graduation of the student, including securing the funding for the research.

Kamilu, jak już musisz, to lepiej chyba "supervised X succesfull doctoral dissertations" - ale można zapytać na czym polegałoby "unsuccesfully supervised"...
Jeżeli jakaś dissertation byłaby unsuccesfull, to profesor sobie jej po prostu nie wpisuje do CV, bo jest ona jakby niebyła.

Dzięki wszystkim. Zgadza się, jak mówiłem "promoted" piszą Polacy i Słowacy którym się nie chciało sprawdzić :) Mentoring to rzeczywiście trochę co innego. W Darkowej propozycji mi brakowało dokonania (wy-), u Polangmara "successful completion" chyba o jedno słowo za dużo. Skłaniam się żeby połączyć Wasze pomysły - "successfully supervised X doctoral dissertations".

Rada naukowa może studenta "promote" (i student wtedy "graduates"), ale jego promotor to advisor/supervisor.

Every PhD thesis has to be promoted by a full university professor who has the role of principal advisor. The promotor (professor) decides whether the work can be supported, i.e. whether the quality suffices. Thus the principal supervisors decide when the thesis can be submitted.
