Change log

Jun 17, 2014 08:48: Bertrand Leduc changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): GILLES MEUNIER, PLR TRADUZIO (X), Bertrand Leduc

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Tony M Jun 16, 2014:
@ Asker 'services' makes sense in certain contexts — but it's just difficult to know why changes to things like the telephone, electricity, or water services would have any effect on the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals???!

This is why I think it is very important to know exactly WHAT these changes are? Chemical composition, manufacturing process, etc. Without this information, the term remains ambiguous, and the only safe solution will be to ask the customer to clarfiy the intended s/t meaning.
orgogozo (asker) Jun 16, 2014:
@Tony Pas plus d'éléments à ma disposition, sinon je n'aurais probablement pas posé la question. Le client utilise "services" pour "utilities".
Tony M Jun 16, 2014:
Context Asker, since 'utilities' is ambiguous, it would be immensely helpful to know just what sort of changes are involved here?

agree Tony M : Just with the proviso that the source term is ambiguous without further context. Caution!

agree writeaway : I don't think there can be much doubt in the context. It's not exactly an unusual or ambiguous English word

Sans contexte, c'est un peu difficile d'être sûr. Mais ce mot reste relativement général.
