One of the key personality factors all the winning traders had in common was a lack of confidence.
That's right... They're not nearly as confident as people think they are. Now don't get me wrong they may be confident about their life and confident about the fact they will succeed. But in terms of a confidence level at any given point in time, they are not an overly confident group. On a scale of 1 to 10, they come in at 6's for confidence; none were 9's to 10's.
None of them had the personality of the braggadocio person. None of them, male or female, Asian, Italian, or American had a forceful demanding personality. They did possess a sense of internal confidence but certainly not the image of confidence that I think people usually associate with traders.
Why is that?
I think that first of all, these people have learned, from trading, not to become overconfident on their position because extreme confidence... a belief that you control things or they will work out your way... leads to substantial losses in the marketplace.
Dr. Jason tells me we really can't alter our personalities very much. These people were never ***bouncing off the walls*** with confidence, which just may be one of the key ingredients as to why they had always been successful. They never had the notion they could control the universe. So they were careful with the way they managed their money.
