diversion triggers higher crop prices, and farmers around the world respond by clearing more forest and grassland to replace crops for feed and food. Studies have confirmed that higher soybean prices accelerate clearing of Brazilian rainforest (8).

I was considering translating the phrase "clearing more forest and glassland" as: przystosowują/adaptują więcej terenów leśnych i trawiastych...

I will appreciate any advice about alternative ways to translate this phrase. Thank you.

Sorry for begin late to the party. Thanks one and all for carrying the conversation. Some grasslands have very tall grasses for which the term wycinać is quite appropriate. Otherwise, I propose ścinać for grasslands and forests.

Everyone is concerned with forest and forgets about grassland - as far as I know there is no word in the Polish language that could be used to name both types of clearing. The only word that I would suggest is "oczyścić" tereny leśne i łąki pod uprawy"

Thank you. I understand that clearing the rainforest will translate as "wycinać" and that it is a serious matter. However I am looking for one word that could be applied both to the forest and grassland in the sentence above the one about rainforest. Any ideas how could deal with this issue? I probably did not make it clear enough in my original question. Sorry.

IMO - "przystosowują/adaptują" - is not good in the context since the real intention is thus being moved away;
what they actually do, the farmers, is cutting down rainforests, which is not positive, even leads to the serious problems worldwide

Ahh, teraz dopiero widzę, że jest "grassland"!
Trzeba dołożyć czasownik "usuwanie"
np.
poprzez wycinkę większych powierzchni lasów i usuwanie traw/obszarów trawiastych
dokonując wycinki większych powierzchni lasów i usuwając tereny trawiaste/pokryte trawą

Wycinanie lasów odbywa się w zastraszającym tempie. Jeżeli będzie się ono utrzymywało na tym samym poziomie to już niedługo puszcze.

Podałem formę podstawową czasownika. Nie widzę żadnych problemów z utworzeniem od tego imiesłowu przysłówkowego czynnego (obecne zwanego współczesnym);)// Jest lepiej: jedno z podawanych w słownikach znaczeń "clear" to właśnie "trzebić (las)".
