English term

racing yard

English to Spanish Science Agriculture Equine care
Hello all,
I'm currently translating a document regarding racehorses and can't find an accurate translation of the term "racing yard". It is the place where racehorse trainers work. In fact, I'm not even sure if racing yards as such exist in Spain. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you very much in advance!

Actually both are righ, in a sense, it is a yard — caballeriza — to train — en pistas de entrenamiento — horses

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you for all your answers and great translations - I believe any of these could be a good choice. I think this is the most appropriate answer (after some consultation with my colleagues and the writer of the text) as the text specifies other words similar to racing yard and this one seems to get closest to what we are trying to portray here. caballeriza

It is basically just the stables where racing horses are kept and ancillary facilities.

LIFE IN THE RACING YARD
What happens in the yard on a daily basis?
On a normal day, the horses are fed at 6.00 am and the staff arrive at about 7.00 am. Their first job is to put all the hay and fresh water for the horses outside each box for use when the horses return from work.

Racehorses live in the equivalent of five-star hotel accommodation. They are well fed, well rugged up and receive top class care and attention. Daily life on a racing yard usually revolves around a fairly strict routine beginning at first light and ending after dark.

In most racing yards, horses will be looked after by the same lad or lass so that they can get to know them and any habits or idiosyncrasies that they might have.

The stable is a very important part of any training yard. During the racing season a racehorse will usually spend the vast majority of its time in its stable, from which it will emerge daily for perhaps an hours exercise. Leading up to a race, a horse will have a serious gallop on two or three occasions a week to ensure that it is race fit. On a racing day, a horse may be away from the yard for anything from 12 hours to a couple of days, depending on the distance to the racetrack.
Construction and layout of stables will vary, often within a yard. The traditional boxes will be brick built with a pitched tile roof with an overhang to provide shelter from the weather and may form four sides around an open quadrangle. Some of the older yards have what are termed 'caged boxes' where a run of boxes and a 'corridor' are within the structure of the building providing full protection from the elements but often at the expense of access difficulties. A modern version of this is the 'American barn' arrangement where typically a large Atcost type barn will be divided up by block partitions to have boxes running the length of both of the longest walls with back-to-back boxes down the middle of the barn. These barns will often be open ended to provide the proper ventilation necessary to prevent the spreading of infections.

In my opinion, the racing stables, otherwise called a "barn" in the USA, is different from the actual racetrack, and they are essentially the training facilities. Many racing stables (barns) have their own exercise tracks.
