Spanish term

mácula

Spanish to English Other Printing & Publishing
This relates to Quality Control for printing of the package insert for a drug.
List of defects considered "critical":

 Texto incorrecto (incluido braille) o difícilmente legible
 Texto incompleto
 Texto borroso/ilegible, doble, manchas que afectan a legibilidad.
 Texto no corresponde con prueba ferro aprobada (color, tamaño, letra, formatos).
 Impresión fuera de registro
 Mácula ilegible
 Distancia de mácula fuera de especificaciones
 Código barras no corresponde, numero, color, ilegible o posición.

I have found the term "mackle" in the context of printing -- which apparently just means blurred print (and we already have "borroso and doble", so that seems redundant).

Anyway, makes sense for the entry "Mácula ilegible" in this list. But then the next one down... distancia de mácula???

Thanks for any help.

maculatura

I am pretty sure it is short for "maculatura", like "maculatura de embalaje". Probably the print on the package is not legible, and in the second case the print layout on the package is outside the margin. Still, I recommend confirming it with the client.
