French term

animation

French to English Bus/Financial Management management of a promotional programme/launch of a new service
Hi, this comes from a translation for an oil company launching a new service for its customers which is also designed to promote the company's products. This part of the text outlines the various components of the new programme such as preparation, choosing appropriate partners, etc. Then we have:

Animation et suivi:

Animation et contrôle du réseau (visites, enquêtes satisfaction…), développement de programmes d’animation des partenaires et de fidélisation des clients.

I am unsure whether 'animation' is being used here in terms of 'management/monitoring' or 'promotion/activities'.

I can see there has been a lot of debate about this word on Proz before but it would be helpful to get a few views from other people.

Thanks & best wishes

Remark I don't always agree with Writeaway but I have to agree with him here

There is some very basic research missing on a number of questions by by several askers today.

A great catch-all word in French which can sometimes be difficult to translate. It basically describes the fact that someone is there doing a particular thing, which can be anything (almost) in the circumstances. However, to chose from among the myriad of possibilities, you'll need to determine the sense in which it is being used in your original as you can't really put anything at all, of course. Maybe you have more specific clues in the "programmes d'animation des partenaires" which are to be developed. The nature of those programme will probably be helpful.

I'd probably go for 'facilitation'. It seems to cover activities that ensure the smooth-running/implementation of a project.

promotion

I'd probably go for promotion in this context, because some promotion activities that are not strictly events can also serve to "animate" ("impart interest or zest to") the target group.
