A storm door can have windows or screens covering the openings in the door panels. In either case, the storm door is typically lighter than the main door and is susceptible to high winds when it is open or not latched tightly. You can install a storm door safety chain to protect the door from flying open too far, thus damaging the door (and likely the doorjamb).

A second door installed outside or inside a prime door creating an insulating air space.
