German term

Technischer Zug der Werkfeuerwehr

German to English Other Other
I'm currently translating a company's emergency response plan to accidents, etc. (British English). The phrase "Technischer Zug der Werkfeuerwehr" comes up a few times and it has the following tasks:

- Undertake an immediate exploration of the scene of the accident or emergency.
- Evaluate the situation and, if necessary, alert further emergency services.

This needs to be differentiated from "Werkfeuerwehr, gesamt", whose task it is to more generally save lives, fight fires and take measures to protect the environment.

If anyone knows of a specific term to refer to firefighters who presumably have particular training to be first on the scene, that would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I really wasn't sure what field this should come under, so apologies in advance if the field needs to be changed.

Hi Andrew Sorry, I'm rather new here and wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the advice - Have a good weekend.

Emergency services terminology Just deleted the content, apparently it was not a particularly good idea to post it in the discussion box - Thanks Andrew
Craig Meulen Oct 11, 2013:
Zugtrupp? That sounds more like the "Zugtrupp" to me than the "Technischer Zug", but the terminology differs from service to service. Zugtrupp could be "command squad". But I like Andrew's suggestion which fits your description well.

incident response unit (IRU) is also a possibility:

but this appears to be used even more frequently as the name of a vehicle:

agree Jochen König : A "Technischer Zug" is usually more akin to a heavy rescue squad. But in this context I'd go for the incident response team.

I think you may You have to distinguish between the actual firefighting vehicles

A Löschzug is a pump vehicle
A Wasserzug is a water tender
Technische Zug is an operational support unit (or vehicle, the unit includes the crew)

BTW: The WiPe page quoted below applies only to UK fire brigades equipment
