Spanish term

grado

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Manufacturing Factory
This appears multiple times in an employee satisfaction survey for factory workers. The most common complaint is that the company takes too long to give employees "grados." Also, that people wait a long time in a new position before they receive the "grado" that corresponds to it. At first I thought it may be promotion, then maybe rank, but neither feels quite right. Could it be the title or maybe the pay or benefits package that goes with the job? Examples below:

Other examples refer to people who already have "grado":
...la gente con grado le tiene favoritismo al personal.
hay mucha gente nueva con grado y la gente que lleva tiempo laborando aqui seguimos igual.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Still no confirmation Thanks to those who offered suggestions. I don't feel confident that any of these were "the right" answer, if there is one. (They could be, but I just don't know!) So I am closing the question without points. Sorry!
Shannon Morales (asker) Oct 15, 2013:
Any other suggestions? While I, too, thought "pay scale/grade" might work in some of the cases, there were others where it clearly didn't fit. I ended up using "(job) title," with a note to the client. I'd still really like to learn what this means, so I'm going to leave the Q. open a bit longer. Thanks!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pay_grade

A pay grade is a unit in systems of monetary compensation for employment. It is commonly used in public service, both civil and military, but also for companies of the private sector. Pay grades facilitate the employment process by providing a fixed framework of salary ranges, as opposed to a free negotiation. Typically, pay grades encompass two dimensions: a "vertical" range where each level corresponds to the responsibility of, and requirements needed for a certain position; and a "horizontal" range within this scale to allow for monetary incentives rewarding the employee's quality of performance or length of service. Thus, an employee progresses within the horizontal and vertical ranges upon achieving positive appraisal on a regular basis. In most cases, evaluation is done annually and encompasses more than one method.

pay raise

this could apply to the early examples; the last example seems that it may be 'position' of responsibility'.
Note from asker:
Thanks; this *could* be right, too. I will keep it open a wee bit longer just in case, though.
