Romanian term

Manca-l-ar mama de...

Romanian to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters

Cum traduc, cu May Mom eat...

Mi se pare ca suna aiurea.

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Claudia Coja Sep 27, 2013:
Dasa Suciu Sep 27, 2013:
Ştiinţa explică: it was found in a research study that the smell of newborn babies fired up the reward centre of the brain ..., the same way particularly tasty foods do!
crina_petrican Sep 27, 2013:
S_G_C (asker) Sep 26, 2013:
Multumesc pentru sugestii. Este imperativ sa folosesc "eat", pentru a fi in concordanta cu restul lucrarii, care vorbeste despre canibalismul efectiv, practicat de anumite triburi de pe glob, in comparatie sau in paralel cu expresii precum cea de mai sus. E faptic versus lingvistic, daca pot sa ma exprim asa. Ma gandeam ca o idee buna ar fi o combinatie de sweet sau cute cu eat you up (cum a sugerat si Alexandra), adica You're so sweet, I could just eat you up, You have such cute ears, I could just eat them up.
crina_petrican Sep 26, 2013:
Alexandra De acord cu claudia
Claudia Coja Sep 26, 2013:
crina_petrican Sep 26, 2013:
You're right, "I could just eat you up " is a common phrase.
Alexandranow Sep 26, 2013:
I could just eat you up” is a common phrase used to describe how cute someone is. Normally when it's said, the person saying it doesn't literally want to eat you ...
Alexandranow Sep 26, 2013:
I could eat you.....??? nu se zice oare?
well. look : "you are so cute I could just eat you up"
pe net
Alexandranow Sep 26, 2013:
Alexandranow Sep 26, 2013:
eu zic că ar merge mom could eat such sweet child..so on...ears eyes ......etc. zicem noi.
Claudia Coja Sep 25, 2013:
"manca-l-ar mama" = mama l-ar manca = mom would like to eat him (si in functie de variatia "manca-l-ar/manca-te-ar etc, se schimba si pronumele in engleza)
manca-l/o-ar/as (mama/-)= mom/I would like to eat him/her..
manca-i-ar/as (mama/-) = mom/I would like to eat his/her..
S_G_C (asker) Sep 25, 2013:
Chiar in contextul unei lucrari despre canibalism sunt folosite expresiile. Dar n-au voie sa ramana in romana.
Claudia Coja Sep 25, 2013:

...Mom's sweetie pie/sugar pie/honey bunch

What a beautiful and clever child is Mom's sweetie pie/sugar pie/honey bunch!
Peer comment(s):

It turns out that when a new mom says her baby is so sweet, so deliciously cute, that it is good enough to eat, she is expressing an urge linked to the survival of the species.

The smell of a newborn triggers the same reward circuits in the brain as the ones that come from satisfying a craving for food, according to a new study published in Frontiers in Psychology. It's the same feeling an addict feels from drugs. Sex can also do the trick.

"It is in fact the sating of desire," one of the paper's authors, tells Britain's Daily Mail.

How a newborn baby really can smell good enough to eat: Odour provokes the same reaction in the brain as tempting food or drugs
Peer comment(s):
