Swedish term

Spikning

Swedish to English Law/Patents Law (general) Service of process
I have not context myself but have found this definition by the Swe Kronofogdenmynd --
"Delgivningen – spikningen - är utförd när
underrättelsen har lämnats i delgivningsmottagarens
brevlåda. Saknas brevlåda kan underrättelsen fästas på
dörren eller på lämplig plats i anslutning till hans
eller hennes hemvist. Dagen när detta sker är
delgivningstidpunkten.

I will not accept 'Nailing'

@Deane I just have to say it - it feels good to have NAILED it. :) :) :)
Deane Goltermann (asker) Sep 1, 2013:
Nailing and other enjoyable terminology ;-) I'm working in Trados without a reference text so I don't see the full context (but it is debt collection software). And here comes a single term that seems to land from the Middle Ages at the end of a series of single word or short phrase terms for the types of service of process. If it was Nailing, I wouldn't be able to stop laughing to get the rest of the job done. But 'nailing and mailing' is used so I nearly fell of my chair -- esp. when reminded of that US favorite 'sewer service' (service agents throwing away the papers and fraudulently asserting a diligent search). Why this topic can be so humerous is hard for me to understand... Spiking is done to drinks and cricket shoes, but has a visceral connotation in this context.

I went with 'service by affixing' for which I found a number of references -- Thanks to our friend in Italy!
Anna Herbst Sep 1, 2013:
Nailing Why do you object to "nailing"? That is probably what I would use here: The serving, or nailing, is completed when....
Deane Goltermann (asker) Aug 31, 2013:
@notification A general term is only the very last resort here, as this is the last in line of all the other forms of service of process. So I have (I beleive) nailed the terms for the other forms, but came up empty on this one. My UK reference has most of the others but not this one!
JaneD Aug 31, 2013:
How do you feel... about simple "notification"? Or failing that, if you want a more nail-type word, "posting"?

Methods of Service
... Some states permit service by affixing the summons and complaint to the entrance of the defendant's home or place of business and then mailing a copy of the papers to that individual at his last known address. This method is often called "nail and mail" service.

BrE: substituted service now - since the 1998 civ.il justice reforms - service by alternative means cribbed off the AmE service by an alternative method.
