Ondanks "launch" zie ik niet echt de raketbetekenis van scud in deze zin, en denk ik dat het gelezen moet worden als "de op afstand aantrekkelijke vrouw" (eerste betekenis urban dict). Ik zou overwegen "mislukte pop Sarah Palin" te gebruiken, waarbij pop verwijst naar zowel mooie vrouw als marionet, en misschien ook nog een popgeluid - via "gelanceerd. Dud staat dan voor mislukking.

: it is referring to a missile. dud is a term that is commonly used to refer to a missile that lands and doesn't explode. and everyone knows that a scud is the name of a missile. don't see how that can just be ignored. the word deploy is also used.

I think that you have a certain degree of flexibility here as far as coming up with a translation. To give you an idea, I once saw 'Diamond Dave' (the singer) translated into Dutch as 'Daverende Dave'.

It may not raise premiums for Medicare beneficiaries or increase deductibles, co-insurance or co-payments. What Howard Dean didn’t disclose when he came out against the IPAB board is that he now works as an adviser to a DC lobbying firm on behalf of the healthcare industry. Dean’s employers will see their profits go down if Obamacare is implemented. In short, Howard Dean isn’t to be trusted because he sold out to the healthcare industry.
The Democrats who are jumping on the death panel hysteria are all from red states or districts and are up for reelection next year. This is just another attempt by them to hold on to their seats by looking like Republican lite.

De link is gegeven in de vraag (zie boven). Klaarblijkelijk heeft Ron W. die link bekeken voordat hij met 'ongeleid projectiel' kwam (zie zijn citaat). Ik heb die link bekeken nadat Gerard het over 'beter bij het artikel passen' had. Maar de link was er.

Ik wil je toch antwoord geven maar ik heb geen ruimte meer daar beneden dus moet ik het hier doen.

De alliteratie is uitstekend maar ik had ook niet anders van je verwacht, al zou 'Bommen Berend' wellicht nog beter geweest zijn. :-)
Ik zal proberen je een eerlijk antwoord te geven, maar in hoeverre ken ik eigenlijk mijn werkelijke motieven?
Voor zover ik die dan ken, was ik alleen bezig met onderzoeken wat hier aan de hand was en voelde ik wel enige voldoening toen ik sluitend bewijs in handen kreeg over Scud dud en vond ik het wel leuk om jouw te plagen met "Gerard bracht me op het idee .." :-)
Toen ik vervolgens zag dat je 4 agrees had, was ik in het geheel niet boos maar wel totaal verrast - met zoveel bewijs dat 'ongeleid projectiel' , uiteraard in mijn beleving, het beste antwoord was, vandaar mijn neutrale opmerking bij jouw antwoord. :-)
Laten we verder ook niet over het hoofd zien, ook al zou jouw "Boze Barend" een verborgen victorie door kunnen laten schemeren, dat het nog steeds zo kan zijn dat Toiny gebruik heeft gemaakt van 'ongeleid projectiel', wat volgens mij, zoals je weet, de enige mogelijkheid is. :-)

Verder, als deze zinnen hieronder werkelijk in de tekst voorkomen dan kun je volgens mij nog nauwelijks om 'ongeleid projectiel' heen. Ik bedoel, de vertaling van 'scud dud' moet te verenigen zijn met:
'missile of truth'
'really loud noises before spinning in circles and crashing into the ocean'
'never hits her target'
Ik vind het in ieder geval in alle opzichten een prima oplossing.
