Las opciones idiomáticas pueden ser diversas pero en este contexto añadiría algunas como estas:

Autocomplacencia en tomarse libertades con las normas
“Adaptación” [personal] de las reglas a las necesidades propias
Sentido de libertad de [poder] saltarse las normas a la torera

Un poquito más verboso, pero creo que preciso:
sentido [sentimiento] de libertad de interpretar la ley según le convenga mejor a uno.

"Rule Bending" implies something different from "Rule Breaking." It implies more possibilities, from re-interpreting the rules or overlooking them according to your judgement. It's not so much about either breaking or following them but it implies a wider range of meanings.
