Discussion

Tony M Mar 3, 2013:
@ Asker It would be highly unusual to have an accent strip with LED lighting down the middle of an office table! Though of course 'accent strips' of all types do exist in plenty of other contexts, many of them indeed intended for 'accent lighting'. It's a very general term covering a huge variety of articles, hence why proper context is vital here in order to avoid a serious translation error.
Suzanne Barbeau (asker) Mar 3, 2013:
Thank you very much for your explanation Tony.
This deco strip can indeed become also a LED accent in some case only I beleive
Tony M Mar 3, 2013:
Context It would be very helpful to have more context, about exactly what sort of furniture this is and where it is being described.

An 'accent...' is usually a decorative feature, but may have some kind of functional purpose as well. Imagine you have a large polished wood table; to start with, extremely wide pieces of wood are expensive, so it will have a join down the middle; then why not add a central strip, to make a decoartive feature out of it? And while you're at it, this 'accent strip' can be used for mounting electrical sockets, microphones, etc. etc. — which are easier to fit into a thin metal strip than through a thick wooden table — and future modifications can be made in a less unsightly fashion.
Suzanne Barbeau (asker) Mar 3, 2013:

Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : Not here, F-X! This is talking about the metal strip often found down the middle of conference-room tables etc., which is handy if you need to mount sockets or other communication accessories.
