French term

frontal

French to English Other Poetry & Literature fulfillment - receiving/s
From an essay on beauty:

"J’analyse ainsi dans le travail des formes de laideur, mais sans jamais les nommer de cette façon. On ne me comprendrait pas, ce serait insultant, frontal, élitiste."

I'm thinking "in your face" or "confrontational"?? Any suggestions?

provocative

"...it would be considered insulting, provocative, elitist."

Though confrontational would be fine, too.

I like the suggestion!

agree John Holland : I think either "provocative" or "confrontational" would work well for an essay.

head-on ; brutal ; too direct

Something which is "frontal" is violent, head-on, brutal. "In your face" is too familiar for your context I reckon, but there are other possibilities.

When it comes to "insultant", we tend rather to expressing this with the noun.

"... it would be an insult, brutal/head-on/too direct, elitist".

When you think of "choc frontal" then you find "head-on".
