French term

casquettes polyester

French to English Tech/Engineering Ships, Sailing, Maritime
Target=uk

Context:

Bouts intégrés dans casquettes polyester avec un accès technique

This is a line in a list of features for a 55 foot sailing yacht. there is no further context.

My instinct is that this is some kind of cover or casing.

Discussion

Nikki Scott-Despaigne Dec 11, 2012:
@ Miranda "Cap" immediately came to mind (as in the Fountaine Pajot Venezia) but I see you have ruled that option out. You say there is no further context. Apart from very general options, which may be wrong, maybe we could gleam something from the line beofre and the line after in the list.

As for polyester, chances are it means GRP.

fibreglass overhang

polyester here = "fibre de verre" = fibreglass

I can picture a "casquette" on a building but not 100% sure of the correct term in English and especially on a boat, hence the medium confidence rating.
Basically this a projection, normally over a window or doorway, not big enough to be called a roof but overhanging enough to perhaps give some protection from the elements, house a light, etc.

previous note should read "casquette" of course

Note from asker:
I know exactly what you're referring to, but if it was that kind of 'casquette' there would only be one of them and the pictures of the yacht just don't fit with this. If it was that, it would simply be called a cap.

agree Nikki Scott-Despaigne : Might be sufficiently accurate and vague to do the trick. GRP for polyester probably...

Thanks - I'm not sure polyester needs changing/expanding.
