Italian term

calcoscisto

Italian to English Science Geology
Comes from the website of a vineyard and is talking about the soil in the vineyard region.

The full sentence is:
"Le analisi confermarono l’età del terreno, 50 milioni di anni, contro i 5 delle vicine crete, e la tipologia della roccia, scistosa calcarea, con un calcoscisto che sotto il primo strato di circa 40cm si estende oltre un metro di profondità"

It is obviously related to "scistosa calcarea" ("Schist limestone?") but I cannot find much trace of this word hunting around

many thanks for your suggestions

Hi Phil, being quite new to this function of the site I didn't actually realise I'd chosen your answer as the correct one, I just wanted to say thanks. To be honest, I actually used 'calc-schist' in my text. I don't know anything about any glossary though, I didn't add anything to anything!
philgoddard Oct 29, 2012:
Tom You've entered the wrong spelling in the glossary - and why did you choose my answer rather than Kyle's?
Thomas Harris (asker) Oct 29, 2012:
thank you to everyone, I would never have known it was a typo!
cheers, Tom
James (Jim) Davis Oct 24, 2012:
Hi Howard If you are sure about that, then you should post it. I knew already that the rock calcareous schist was "roccia scistosa calcarea" but understood that calcescisto was more a term for a soil.
Howard Sugar Oct 24, 2012:
It is also referred to as simply marl
Howard Sugar Oct 24, 2012:
One description of the soil type is "marl limestone" (from marl comes from marble) which is frequently used in the wine world.

Italian term (edited): calcoscisto (should be calcescisto)

calc-schist or calcschist

"A metamorphosed argillaceous limestone with a schistose structure produced by parallelism of platy minerals. AGI Source: Dictionary of Mining, Mineral, and ..."

Incidentally, a scistosa calcarea would be a calcareous schist.
Note from asker:
thanks very much for your help, much appreciated!
