Could you tell me please if there exists a fixed expression in Russian for "culture-bound" elements?

Discussion

kfronczak (asker) Apr 29, 2012:
Thank you all for your help!
kfronczak (asker) Apr 21, 2012:
You know, I meant in general. For instance in a sentence like this:

"In order to deal with the culture-bound items more effectively __ developed his own system of commonly applied translation techniques."
maxtsymbalau Apr 21, 2012:
Context Any context? E.g., culture-bound elements of what?

культурно-специфические единицы/элементы/компоненты

"культурно-специфические" is the main part, afterwards choose from "единицы/элементы/компоненты" depending on context

Спасибо.
agree OWatts : они же CSIs (culture-specific items); это не аспекты, а слова и выражения, обозначающие предметы и концепции, которые есть в source culture, но отсутствуют в target culture

Все слова которые обусловлены культурой того или иного народа называются culture-bound words – реалии

Words are divided into two types in linguistics: the culture-bound words, i.e. words that reflect specific aspects of Russian culture and do not have equivalents in the target language, and terms (all other words) that have equivalents. So, the culture-bound words are called языковые или культурные реалии in Russian linguistics. Such words are either transliterated or described in order to explain the meaning. By the way, you can also call it безэквивалентная лексика, it means the words that do not have equivalent in the target language.
