Si tratta del manuale di istruzioni di un analizzatore ematologico. Il termine "sheath" compare in numerosissime circostanze, come "sheath reagent", "sheath motor", "sheath flow system", "sheath injector piston" ecc.
Il cliente sta facendo tradurre il manuale in molte lingue attraverso un'agenzia, che ha chiesto a tutti i traduttori di inserire eventuali dubbi in un modulo da spedire al cliente per chiarimenti. Le risposte sono state inviate a tutti noi traduttori e alla domanda di un collega "What does 'sheath' refer to?" è stato risposto "To the sheathing of fluids, as explained in the following link: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2751611/".
Malgrado la spiegazione continuo a non avere idee su come tradurre il termine. Qualcuno ha suggerimenti?

1. Hydro Dynamic Focusing Method
Inside the detector, the sample nozzle is positioned in front
of the aperture and in line with the center. After diluted
sample is forced from the sample nozzle into the conical
chamber, it is surrounded by front sheath reagent and
passes through the aperture center. By passing through the
aperture center, the cells provide nice shape of cell signals.
After passing through the aperture, the diluted sample is
sent to the catcher tube.
2. Flow Cytometry Method Using Semiconductor Laser
Cytometry is used to analyze physiological and chemical
characteristics of cells and other biological particles. Flow
cytometry is used to analyze those cells and particles as
they flow through an extremely small pathway.
A blood sample is aspirated, measured, diluted to the
specified ratio, and stained. The sample is then fed into the
flow cell. This sheath flow mechanism improves cell count
accuracy and reproducibility.
