Discussion

Emiliano Pantoja Nov 28, 2011:
@ Colin I see, but mehr lerne weniger ich verstehe, sustainable forest and handicrafts is not a little bit like mixing apples and oranges.
Colin Rowe Nov 28, 2011:
@Emiliano The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is not about "designations of origin", but about promoting the sustainable and responsible use of woodland and forest resources.
Colin Rowe Nov 28, 2011:
Further clarification On re-reading my own reference I realise that although the text refers to projects by the Belgian government, the beneficiaries of the funds are "projects to support local communities in South America". This would presumably cover the marketing of such nuts as Brazil nuts, for example.
Emiliano Pantoja Nov 28, 2011:
@Colin What you say is more logical according to "access to markets" but I wonder what it is, a sort of designation of origin for products made with certain type of wood? We need more context
Colin Rowe Nov 28, 2011:
Unless I am barking up the wrong tree (!)... ... this is from a text by the Forest Stewardship Council referring to a project in Belgium. You can find the exact sentence and its surrounding context here: http://www.fsc.org/rio20casestudies.html
I do not think it has anything at all to do with Chinese techniques for carving nuts! Grammatically, this would make no sense from the source text sentence in any case. "Nuts" and "Woodcarving" are two entirely separate examples here.
Emiliano Pantoja Nov 28, 2011:
Hediao Le nom chinois est Hediao, c'est "écrou découpant" en français. J'ai ajouté un link où on voit parfaitement lincroyable travail minimaliste à l'intérieur d'une noix.

noix et sculptures en bois

It seems to be referring simply to products from woodlands, including nuts (the edible variety) and carved wooden artefacts.

•Belgium
The Flemish Regional Government (Belgium) has given grants ranging from 47.500 to 130.000 Euro for short term (1-3 year) projects to support local communities in South America. The grants will help the communities organise themselves to achieve group certification of their forests and coordinate access to markets for certified wood and wood products (nuts and woodcarving, for instance). One project is specifically targeted to restore degraded forests. The government in all cases works through domestic, often local, NGOs.

sculpture sur noix

J'ai trouvé ça sur internet... apparemment il est possible de sculpter différents types de noix (baobab, noix de coco, etc.)
Peer comment(s):

agree Daniel Marquis : Il faudrait ajouter ...et sur bois.

agree Alexandre Tissot

disagree Colin Rowe : Would only make sense if "nuts" was in the singular, i.e. "nut and wood carving".
