French term

Train statistique

French to English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals
I'm not sure what this is referring to.
I am translating standard operating procedures for a pharmaceutical company and it is part of the testing procedure on the packaging machines.

The term appears in two phrases:

**Train statistique** sur le système de vision

La réalisation d’un **train statistique** sur un élément à contrôler doit être suivie d’un test d’éjection de l’élément manquant sur l’entièreté du pas.

I can't find any reference to this that hasn't to do with railways or assumes I am talking about trainING.
Has anyone seen this term before?

Thanks

Discussion

SJLD Sep 18, 2011:
have a look at "process statistics" - might be something in that
Bashiqa Sep 17, 2011:
I like SJLD's idea of sequential statistics. Prod lines are a sequence of events that create a 'train'. e.g. put tin on conveyor, put chicken legs in tine, weigh tin and contents, eject tin if underweight, add sauce, re-weigh, and so on. This also includes printing time and date etc, probably more appropriate to the pharma industry than my chicken leg examples.
SJLD Sep 17, 2011:
It could well be something as simple as a checklist. I would ask the client if possible.
Marie-Helene Dubois (asker) Sep 17, 2011:
thanks for your suggestions Bashiqa and SJLD what do you think about a convoy for statistical purposes or a circuit for statistical purposes or something of the sort?
SJLD Sep 17, 2011:
train as in "train de production" - so a sequence of events - perhaps sequential statistics?
Bashiqa Sep 17, 2011:
I would be tempted to leave it as 'train statistic'. Although I haven't seen this term before they are probably collecting stats about the different items coming off the prod line. The test they talk about is to verify if the machine has 'seen' something missing, often by weighing, and ejecting it from the prod line. The stats will tell them what % have passed by on the 'train'.

seems to be rather technical!
