French term

Prime d'action

French to English Law/Patents Automotive / Cars & Trucks sale of cars for rental
In a car rental agreement between a car manufacturer and rental company (from France):

"Une prime d'action est appliquee au Prix de Base Hors Taxes, Options comprises hors transport et preparation, apres deduction de la remise LOUEUR, pour chaque Vehicule vendu dans le cadre du Protocole".

Sorry for the missing accents!

I'm not sure about the English equivalent for "prime d'action". I know we're not talking about share premiums here!

Help much appreciated...

Yes, you're right - thanks Phil for your sensible suggestion :-)
philgoddard Aug 22, 2011:
So it sounds like the French is unclear - you might need to put a translator's note saying 'It is not clear who pays this bonus and what for'. Also, they haven't said how much.
Sarah Day (asker) Aug 22, 2011:
The problem is that this is a stand-alone clause in the agreement and the sentence I typed out is the only wording for this clause - this is what makes it so difficult to translate! The title of the clause is "Prime d'Action". The previous clause concerns discounts for the rental company and the next one is on transport costs.
philgoddard Aug 22, 2011:
But who is paying the "prime d'action" to whom? What does it say before and after this? As Liz says, it means a bonus of some kind - "action" means something along the lines of "promotional", but it would be nice to have more context to be sure.
Sarah Day (asker) Aug 22, 2011:
Yes, you are absolutely right - my apologies, I was unclear. It is a contract in which a car manufacturer is selling cars to a car rental company to be used as hire cars. The agreement is indeed for the sale of cars for rental, rather than for rental of the cars.
philgoddard Aug 22, 2011:
Can you tell us a bit more about the contract? It looks like a sale rather than a rental contact.
