unless I am mistaken... you will find quite a few hits around for "temporary prosthesis" and "skin stretching". MIght not something quite word for word work in your original, of which you have fuller context?

Thank you, Liz. One of your links leading to another, I found, and I think I will settle on, skin or tissue expander prosthesis [http://tinyurl.com/3eqmbgt], or simply "skin or tissue expander" unless somebody comes up with something better.
