German term

Wettbewerbsteilnehmer

German to English Marketing Advertising / Public Relations trade fair stands
I'm looking for a translation of "Wettbewerbsteilnehmer" as in the following text:
http://www.famab.de/famab/press/pressreleases/detail.html?id...

Is it simply "competitor" or is there a more specific term?

The phrase I'm actually translating is
"Anzahl der Wettbewerbsteilnehmer"
as part of a checklist for a company preparing for a briefing with an exhibition contractor.

Thanks in advance.
Proposed translations (English)
4 +5 bidder
4 +2 tender participants
3 +1 contestant/contender/participant

Any formulation that uses the noun 'tender' as an adjective sounds awkward in English (tender participants, tender fee etc) and is best avoided, IMO.

On the basis of the process as described in the FMA and FDA guidelines, two other option worth considering are 'applicants' and 'candidates'.

And with reference to your previous question, any (job) applicant/candidate is entitled to claim expenses for attending an interview with a prospective employer.
Peer comment(s):

agree Kim Metzger : Tender participant is also ambiguous, since it can include the client.

neutral Eleanore Strauss : in the advertising world it would be called pitch contenders or participants, just bidders seems a bit simplistic in this context

agree Cilian O'Tuama : I don't see any reason to make it more complicated than this.

agree Helen Shiner : Yes, one bids for a tender

agree Nicole Schnell : Indeed: pitch. Usually three agencies are invited.
