English term

hardcore

English to Spanish Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering
This is the context: "only local materials have been used (for the harbour construction) and the vast quantities of hardcore required are largely recycled from other sites in the region."

It is included in a document describing the construction and enlargement of an important Atlantic port to increase its handling capacity.

I have reviewed previous translations but I am not really sure if "ripiado" or "cascarro" fit in this context and if they are meant for Spain.

Please provide a translation for Spain.

material de cimentación

Here you have a definition of Hardcore:
http://products.ihs.com/cis/Doc.aspx?AuthCode=&DocNum=201647
http://www.allwords.com/word-hardcore.html

It is the material used for the foundations, and is not a specific material,
in Spanish foundations are called "cimientos", and cimentación to the act of building them

in that specific sentence I would say:
...la amplia mayoria de materiales necesarios de cimentación necesarios...
or
...la amplia mayoria de materiales necesarios para la cimentación...

neutral Sergio Campo : La zahorra es un agregado de materiales naturales que provienen de canteras o graveras. El "hardcore" es un cascajo o escombro: tierra, piedras y otros materiales de construcción (ladrillos, bloques, hormigón, etc.)
