En inglés las arañas "spin" sus telarañas. Pero no podemos decir "tejer la telaraña de la vida" así que mejor red. Buena suerte!

Como phrasal verb también tiene ese sentido de alargar o prolongar, pero probablemente tienen razón los que han pensado en tejer ;-)
