Castles, fortifications, fortresses abound in my text, which is actually about dendrochronology and how it casts new light on Danish history in particular.
Rigsborgene also seem to have been a German phenomenon - but what are they called in English?

Det er rigsborge i modsætnng til privatborge, og de er anlagt af kongemagten (=centralmagten). Det giver jo også god mening, at de så især findes der, hvor landet som sådan er truet af angreb udefra.

fortified castles
Måske "Fortified Royal Castles", men jeg tror, "Fortified" skal bruges i dette sammenhæng!
