I have found the LED is universally used on all domestic equipment i've ever encountered sold over here in FR; of course, most of that is imported...
GDT (and Canada in general) seems to tend to push the 'official' OLF usage, which naturally gives preference to the truly 'FR' term.
I don't think Yves is right in saying that DEL is only used in FR; it is probably truer to say "it isn't used in Belgium" — and of that, I'm pretty sure.
The technical FR (hexagone) texts I get to translate into EN use about 80% LED and 20% DEL.

As Gilles has pointed out, the issue of LED vs DEL can be neatly side-stepped by simply translating it as 'voyant' — I can see no technical value in specifying that these are LEDs, unless, of course, there are some other display devices (LCD, incandescent, neon, fluorescent, ...) in close proximity.

C'était une blague ! Mais si on s'aligne à côté de l'AF, forcément, on risque de se faire traiter de pédant... J'approuve à fond, c'est vraiment trop dommage que la belle langue française soit ainsi « pôlluée » avec ces anglicismes barbares.

Discussion
Une diode électroluminescente, abrégée sous les sigles DEL ou LED (de l'anglais light-emitting diode), est un composant opto-électronique capable d’émettre de la lumière lorsqu’il est parcouru par un courant électrique. Une diode électroluminescente ne laisse passer le courant électrique que dans un seul sens (comme une diode classique) de plus elle produit un rayonnement monochromatique ou polychromatique incohérent à partir de la conversion d’énergie électrique lorsqu'un courant la traverse. Elle compte plusieurs dérivées, principalement, l'OLED, l'AMOLED ou le FOLED (pour flexible oled). Les LED sont considérées, par beaucoup, comme une technologie d'avenir dans le domaine de l'éclairage général. En effet, on estime que d'ici à 2020, les LED pourraient représenter 75 % du marché de l'éclairage[1].
Elles sont utilisées aussi dans la construction des écrans de télévision plats : pour le rétroéclairage des LCD, comme source d'illumination principale dans les écrans de télévision à LED.

I understand it as 'the visual pattern formed by the LEDs', e.g. ON / OFF / OFF / ON, and in some similar contexts, I have found 'schéma' used... but I'm not qualified to vouch for it more than that.
